Record interpretation
This page preserves the terminology of the recovered incident record. Shark identifications in historical reports can be uncertain, and classifications such as Provoked, Sea Disaster, Watercraft, Invalid, or Questionable should be retained rather than rewritten as generic “attacks.”
Where the source does not record a victim name, age, injury, time, or shark species, the field is left as Not recorded instead of being inferred from the location, search query, or surrounding incidents.

Historical incident datasets are compiled from press reports, eyewitness accounts, investigator notes, medical records and later archival research. Details can change when records are reclassified or corrected. If two sources disagree, the production page should preserve the disagreement in an editorial note rather than silently choosing a more dramatic version.
