Shark Incidents by State, Province and Region

Browse shark-human incident records using normalized geographic areas such as states, provinces, islands, counties and marine regions.

The earlier Shark Incidents dataset sometimes turned raw location descriptions into `/states/` pages. Phrases such as “400 miles southeast of Sri Lanka” or “between England and South Africa” are not states and should not be recreated as taxonomy pages. During restoration, those old URLs are either matched to a specific incident, normalized to a real geographic region, or retired when no useful equivalent exists.

A geographic page is useful when it groups real reviewed records under a stable place name. Each indexable page should include a map, record list, parent country or region, date coverage, source status and a note explaining that recorded incident density is not the same thing as personal risk.
