Fatal Shark Incidents: Records and Context
This page collects reviewed shark-human incident records in which the outcome is recorded as fatal.
Fatal incidents deserve careful presentation. A fatality count is not a direct measure of how likely an encounter is, and a higher count in one place can reflect human exposure, distance from emergency care, activity type, species, injury circumstances, reporting and random variation.
The page should avoid graphic descriptions and should not rank beaches or countries with a “deadliest” label.
Use the filters to explore records by date, location, activity, classification and species confidence. Every record should link to its supporting sources and clearly distinguish confirmed facts from details that remain uncertain.
