Sand tiger shark
Slug: `/species/sand-tiger-shark/` Scientific name: Carcharias taurus
The sand tiger shark is a heavy-bodied coastal shark with long, visibly protruding teeth. Its appearance can seem intimidating, but appearance is not a behavioral classification.
Sand tiger sharks occur around reefs, wrecks and coastal habitats in several regions. Divers may encounter them in areas where they aggregate.
Use the incident record rather than the animal's appearance to describe any human interaction.
